Quotes and sayings:

Without love everything is all wrong, without love the days are so long, without love you don’t know what you want, you don’t know what you needJ

Life is like a blanket too short.  You pull it up and your toes rebel, you yank it down and shivers meander about your shoulder; but cheerful folks manage to draw their knees up and pass a very comfortable night.  ~Marion Howard

Life… is like a box of chocolates – a cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that no one ever asks for, unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates.  So, you’re stuck with mostly undefinable whipped mint crap, mindlessly wolfed down when there’s nothing else to eat while you’re watching the game.  Sure, once is a while you get a peanut butter cup or an English toffee but it’s gone too fast and the taste is fleeting.  In the end, you are left with nothing but broken bits filled with hardened jelly and teeth-shattering nuts, which, if you are desperate enough to eat, leaves nothing but an empty box of useless brown paper.  ~The X-Files

Failure is only a temporary change in direction to set you straight for your next success.
Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.

“Life without love is like a tree without blossoms or fruit.”
“Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself. To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night. To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving.”
~Kahlil Gibran on love

“Relationships are like glass. Sometimes it is better to leave them broken than try to hurt yourself putting it back together.”

“When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one that has opened for us.”

– Alexander Graham Bell

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our Attitudes.

Charles R. Swindoll quotes

The difference between school and life? In school, you’re taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you’re given a test that teaches you a lesson.

Tom Bodett quotes

Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success, that is way great spiritual giants are produced.” drlrao

Swami Vivekananda quotes

This is my life. I love my Best Friends

I’m happy with my friends. I love boo, bebz, B.I.and mylove. A friend is one who knows us, but loves us anyway. Sometimes I want to shout to the whole world how lucky I am to have them as my friend but sometimes I want to hush…afraid that somebody might take them away from me. But I’m not afraid because I know there always on my side through good times and bad times. Friends are like melons; shall I tell you why? To find one good you must one hundred try. But I’m lucky because I have them in my life.

But if they need a friend I promise I won’t let them down I’ll be there, Right there beside them, I promise. I will be there, I’ll be there shoulder who can lean on
I’ll be there friend who can depend on. I will be there. My Friends are the sunshine of my life. I keep my friends as misers do their treasure, because, of all the things granted us by wisdom, none is greater or better than friendship.

About me:)

I love my past. I love my present. I’m not ashamed of what I’ve had, and I’m not sad because I have it no longer. Living gives me a better understanding of life. I would hope that my characters have become deeper and more rounded personalities. Wider travels have given me considerably greater insight into how cultural differences affect not only people. Love life and life will love you back. Love people and they will love you back.

I am smart. I do like to study.
I like to have fun. I Like to party.

“Why the 2010 Election Automation is a “Disaster Waiting to Happen”

Remember, in manual voting, each of these positions are simply printed, with an underlined space on which the voter writes his choices. In the automated system, where both voting and canvass is done through a printed ballot fed into a machine, voters will need to shade an oval space beside the printed names of each of the candidates of each of these positions. So the ballot will contain some 300 names of persons or parties. Go figure how this can be done.

In the manual system official ballot, the fonts used are probably 24. In the automated system, will they use font 8? That will make it extremely difficult for senior citizens with poor eyesight, and worse for those who have not been properly initiated into the new system, as in the country’s hinterlands and islands where the Comelec’s “massive” information program may not connect. The ridiculous alternative is to use large font, but that would make the ballot as long as two meters.

With over 11 billion pesos allotted for the election automation process, you’d think the COMELEC would’ve insisted on touch-screen machines, as well as the back-ups needed to keep them going in case of power blackouts or what not. A touch-screen machine can present the list of over 300 candidates in a more manageable manner, by separating the list into pages, showing the list of presidential candidates first, the VP candidates next, etc. (Although making a user jump through more virtual pages creates its own share of problems, it’s still less confusing than a large paper ballot with tiny names and ovals) A touch-screen machine can also print out votes, as a hard copy back-up in case the data on the system becomes compromised.

Admittedly, these kind of machines can be intimidating (I’ve actually seen people who’ve seen a computer for the first time literally shake in the presence of one), which is why Banayo’s other point—has proper testing been done?—is equally crucial: “Has Comelec done a time and motion simulation, using, not James Vergara or some disciple of Garcillano in Intramuros, but Juan de la Cruz from Isla Puting Bato and Petra Dalosig from Lakewood in Zamboanga del Sur?”

Exactly. Based on Banayo’s writings, it’s clear that the current election automation system has potential flaws that make disaster likely, and that fact isn’t helped by the COMELEC’s apparent lack of usability testing. Even if the COMELEC can’t or won’t require the election automation provider to provide usability testing, they can learn a lot online:

How much alcohol do teens use?

Alcohol is the most frequently used drug by teenagers in the United States. About half of junior high and senior high school students drink alcohol on a monthly basis, and 14% of teens have been intoxicated at least once in the past year. Nearly 8% of teens who drink say they drink at least five or more alcoholic drinks in a row (binge drink).

What are the dangerous effects of alcohol use in teens?

Just a few of the many dangerous effects of alcohol use in teens include the following:

  • Alcohol decreases teens’ ability to pay attention.
  • The younger a person is when they begin drinking, the more likely they are to develop a problem with alcohol.
  • Each year, almost 2000 people under the age of 21 years died in car crashes in which underage drinking is involved. Alcohol is involved in nearly half of all violent deaths involving teens.
  • More than three times the number of eighth-grade girls who drink heavily said they have attempted suicide compared to girls in that grade who do not drink.
  • Teens that drink are more likely to engage in sexual activity, have unprotected sex, or have sex with a stranger.
  • Excess alcohol use can cause or mask other emotional problems, like anxiety or depression.
  • Drinking in excess can lead to the use of other drugs, like marijuana, cocaine, or heroin.

Life’s Lessons

  • Money doesn’t bring you happiness, but it enables you to look for it in more places.
  • Your conscience may not keep you from doing wrong, but it sure keeps you from enjoying it.
  • Middle age is when broadness of the mind and narrowness of the waist change places.
  • Misers aren’t much fun to live with, but they make great ancestors.
  • Be careful what rut you choose. You may be in it the rest of your life.
  • Opportunities always look bigger going than coming.
  • The real reason you can’t take it with you is that it goes before you do.
  • A person who can smile when things go wrong has found someone to blame it on.
  • Money isn’t everything….there’s credit cards, money orders, and travelers checks.
  • Some people are like blisters. They don’t show up until the work is done.
  • A true friend is one that lets his grass grow as tall as his neighbor’s.
  • A baby-sitter is a teenager acting like an adult while the adults are out acting like teenagers.
  • If you don’t know where you’re going, you’re never lost.

  • Do not undermine your worth by comparing yourself to others. It is because we are different that each of us is special.
  • To not set your goals by what other people deem important. Only you know what is best for you.
  • Do not take for granted the things closest to your heart. Cling to them as you would your life, for without them, life is meaningless.
  • Do not let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past nor for the future.
  • By living your life one day at a time, you live all the days of your life.
  • Do not give up when you still have something to give.
  • Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.
  • It is a fragile thread that binds us to each other. Do not be afraid to encounter risks.
  • It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.
  • Do not shut love out of your life by saying it is impossible to find.
  • The quickest way to receive love is to give love;
  • The fastest way to lose love is too hold it too tightly;
  • In addition, the best way to keep love is to give it wings.
  • Do not dismiss your dreams. To be without dreams is to be without hope; To be without hope is to be without purpose.
  • Do not run through life so fast that you forget not only where you have been, but also where you are going. Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.

Teenage Pregnancy:Our Fault or Their Fault?

“HUMAYO KAYO AT MAGPAKARAMI!!”
GOD says to NOAH after the great flood. What does HE really means to that word?Does He mean to multiply in flesh or spread people’s faith.
That quote from the bible has been the excuse of Catholicism for not using contraception and banning abortion.
Even sexual education.

We have to be realistic in life, staying virgin until you got married is very impossible to happen these days.
Teenagers in 21st century are very impulsive and very eager to try new things and stuff.
We are civilized people yet we pretend to be ignorant when it comes to SEX.Ignorant that our teenage children may have the possibilities to be engaged in sexual activity by the time they reached the age of 16,or even younger.
We FILIPINOS lacks of knowledge when it comes to contraception and often dismissed our children when they asked question about it.
We are very confident that our teenage children will never be engaged in sexual activity because they are too young and we teach them values about GOD.

WRONG…

Teenagers are easy to encourage as they lack of experience and very eager to do things that may seem new to them.

My point is,why catholics banned sexual education when the vision of this education is how to prevent unwanted pregnancy by the means of contraception.Sex education does’nt encourage teenagers to get pregnant and have an abortion afterwards, right??

And in my opinion,it’s up to teenager’s choice whether to have an abortion or not.Why does she have to continue on pregnancy if she is unable to provide her baby’s basic needs because she’s still studying.

To anyone who will read this article,I dare asked you:IS IT OUR FAULT THAT WE,ELDERS
DID’NT TEACHED THEM ANYTHING ABOUT SEX?OR,THEIR FAULT FOR BEING UNABLE TO CONTROL THEIR LUST?

Actually we have our own insights in everything that happen to us,,, Teenage Pregnancy:Our Fault or Their Fault?. I guess there is no wrong decision when it happen already. Why? It’s already done! that’s it. Searching of who is wrong or right is not the point. There are teenagers who are weak in terms of decision making but they did not run from their responsibilities, on the otherhand there are also coward.
To continue living in this world we don’t stop in making decisions.
Teenage Pregnancy:Our Fault or Their Fault?. It’s not the elders fault nor the teenagers’ fault.
IT’S THEIR DECISION…

8th Philippine Robotics Olympiad held in SM North

Some of the brightest students from over 300 public and private schools nationwide went head-to-head at the 8th Philippine Robotics Olympiad (PRO) Wednesday and Friday, showcasing a wide array of robots that could perform a variety of tasks – from singing and dancing to braiding and etching – and that also looked good too while doing the tasks.

Held at the SM North Annex in Quezon City, the PRO encouraged students to come up with robots that were not just functional but also aesthetically pleasing, with points awarded to robots that performed tasks with “a synergy of artistry, ingenuity, and scientific flair.”

“The students have been able to bring a lot of creative elements into their work,” President and CEO of FELTA Multimedia Mylene Abiva said. “This comes at a very good time for the country, because the Philippines has been privileged to host the World Robot Olympiad in 2010,” she added.

FELTA is the main organizer of the PRO in partnership with the Science Education Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (SEI-DOST) with support from the Department of Education (DepEd).

2010 will be the year of phones that are really handheld computers

As 2010 draws nearer, techies can expect a key year for communication technology with Apple set to launch a new iPhone, Microsoft to launch its Microsoft Mobile 7, and there’s the Google Android 2 on the way.

Launched in China in October 2009, the Apple iPhone 3GS is now conquering the world’s most populous mobile phone market and is set for a great start to 2010. But Apple even now is already working on the phone’s next generation.

Matthew Bath, the technology editor of WHICH Magazine, says “You can’t escape the fact that the Apple iPhone has absolutely revolutionized this industry in two years and whatever Apple calls its next version, which should launch in about July 2010, it’s going to be probably still the most anticipated launch of the year” .

The iPhone is not without market rivals. Most notably, Google Android is now offering a competitive operating system, with key applications and gadgets. This will be expanded in 2010, with the launch of Android 2.0, also known as Eclair.

As well as being Bluetooth-capable, the new version will include the option to have multiple accounts on one device, a search function for saved text messages and multi-touch support for the virtual keyboard.

Microsoft Mobile, which will launch its Mobile 7 platform next year is another growing contender.

Downloadable software means you’ll be able to totally customize your phone. And with all these different software gaining popularity, it becomes simpler to check social networking sites from a mobile phone.

Facebook, Myspace and Twitter have all created applications for the various mobile platforms, which have proved to be a huge success.

“Mobile social networking is going to be a big story for 2010. These are mobile phones that are always connected to the Internet and they can pull together your Facebook, Myspace and Twitter feeds all into one interface so that you can constantly keep in touch with friends and family wherever you go,” says Bath.

Being able to check social networking sites on the go, as well as being constantly connected to the Internet, makes a mobile phone feel more like a mini computer these days. Phones like the Nokia N900, for example, enable users to have multiple applications running at the same time.

Luke Peters, deputy editor of T3 Magazine says that lots of phone companies will be aiming for increased processing speed in 2010.

Peters says: “I think another main area where mobile phones are going to grow in 2010 is the actual computing speed. Nokia recently said that they, with their new N900 phone, they don’t want it to be regarded as a mobile phone, they see it as a portable computer, that is a small, handheld computer, so with more processing speed, more RAM.”

This means, Peter explains, that these tiny handheld devices can act like normal desktop computers. “You can multitask applications, so you can write an email and then quickly switch to Spotify, and then quickly switch to an online image editing application. The more power that a mobile phone has, the more features and applications you will be able to take advantage of in 2010.”

A very popular application is Google Maps, which users can easily access on their mobile phones to find out their exact location. But it goes further than that, with the latest applications offering extra information which is directly linked to where you are.

Luke Peters refers to this concept as augmented reality.

“Augmented reality is an idea that came around really in the start of 2009 and allows, now that you can track wherever your phone is, whether it’s an iPhone 3G or a Google Android phone, it means that companies can layer information over realtime video to show you exactly what’s happening in your surroundings,” Peters says.

“So potentially you could be walking down the street and point your iPhone at a coffee shop and it would say well Starbucks is offering you a free coffee if you come in right now. Or if you’re traveling around a city and you want to know what a building is all about you can point your phone at the building and it will overlay real-time information just to give you some idea about your surroundings and where you are,” he explains.

There are also applications that help you locate your friends by sending you their location on a map.

Matthew Bath confirms that the emphasis is really on software next year. “Again 2010 is a story of software,” Bath says. “You’re going to see a big rise in downloadable stores that enable you to download software to totally customize your mobile phone, whether that’s finding out where you’ve parked your car to scanning barcodes in your local supermarket.”

But do people really make use of all these innovative applications?

Nicholas Davis says he mainly uses his Blackberry Bold’s satellite navigation function. Tony Taylor says his phone has a drum-kit application, which he really likes since he’s a musician.

But Taylor’s friend Dan Frasier-Betts says he has got the ultimate function on his phone. “My phone is a mirror,” he says and holds it up proudly. – AP

Love Detector device: can it help you find love?

At a bar in downtown Tel Aviv, people are “speed dating”—trying to find a love match within minutes. But how do you know when you’ve clicked with that special person? And, how do you know the feeling is mutual?

It’s the 21st century, and some believe modern technology has the answer. Amir Liberman, the CEO of Nemesysco, based in Netanya, Israel, says his company has the perfect device, called the Love Detector.

“The Love Detector will show on the screen signs of attraction, signs of, let’s call it the butterflies, … how happy the other person is to speak with you,” he says.

Nemesysco specializes in voice detection systems, mostly for security purposes to detect criminal intent. The Love Detector started off as a joke, but was developed into a software that detects emotion—and through that, attraction—via people’s voices.

When two people speak into the software—either through Internet telephony or by phone—the Love Detector analyses a regular conversation and spots excitement and arousal—or the lack thereof—to let you know if you should pursue further. It measures different parameters and then supplies the user with a report detailing its findings. If there is a match, a flower on the program will fill up with petals.

Psychologist Iris Solomon says it could be a useful tool for anyone who isn’t sure they can pick up on a connection. “Sometimes in speed dating, or on a blind date, people don’t know. Is there a match? Does she fit? Does he fit? Is he interested? Is she interested? A tool like this can be a backup to one’s own feelings.”

Regardless of whether it can detect a connection, Salomon says the Love Detector is a good ice breaker, helping people to start a conversation.

But at the Tel Aviv bar’s speed dating event, not everyone was convinced the device is the way forward.

Revital Solomon and Motty Houli, for example, spent seven minutes on this speed date. The Love Detector showed there was something of a connection. And Revital agreed. “It helps you. It helps that, well, if the machine is right, maybe I should give it a try. Why not?” she says.

But her date wasn’t so sure. “I guess I’m more superficial than the Love Detector. I guess she was very nice and we hit it off I guess mentally, but she’s not my type,” says Houli.

The device raises more questions about the role of technology in finding love. Internet dating is already a common way to find a match, but some may be uncomfortable with a machine determining a match. One thing the Love Detector may not pick up on is physical attraction.

“I think a machine is kind of giving you a false image, false perception of what it really is. How so? Well I think that, you know, you can never tell if it’s right or wrong… I suppose you kind of trust or put your faith in a machine. If the machine tells you it’s right and you want to believe in it, then you’ll believe in it,” says Jonny Eshel, a Tel Aviv resident.

His friend, Michelle Leigh, agrees the machine could be somewhat intrusive. “That is not natural. Like… you speak to people and you know the person. You don’t need all this,” says Leigh.

Others were more optimistic. “I think it would save a lot of time doing a lot of wasted interviewing,” says Nina Lemansky, sitting with her boyfriend at a Tel Aviv bar.

But, whether the Love Detector works or not, the feeling you get when you click with someone is undeniable. And couples know there’s nothing like the real thing.—AP
